![]() The 12" gives so much more bottom and punch. I'll have a better idea once they get the AC4TV in for me to try out.Thrilled to wade in on a Pathfinder 15R discussion.my primary amp now is a 15R re-cabbed into a beautiful little cabinet I got on ebay a couple years ago that someone had had made for a 15R chassis and a 10" speaker.I bought it and cut the speaker baffle out for a 12" speaker. He also commented that I would be able to save some more money because it isn't like he'd charge me full price for the acoustic or amp anyway so I think that might be the way to go. He mentioned that, were I to choose the Yamaha FG700S as opposed to a more expensive acoustic, it comes with a $20 gift card that could be put towards the amp. They didn't have one in (they only had the combo version which I don't really like) so he ordered one in for the store and figures it should arrive in a few days so that I can try it out. I was talking to one of the sales guys I deal with though and he recommended the AC4TV head & cab over the AC15VR. I cranked it and still could barely hear anything so I just gave up. The clean channel was fine (reverb was still really weak) but, after switching to either of the overdrive channels, there was virtually no sound coming from the amp. Problem was that theirs was all screwed up. I left there and went to my local store (same chain) and, although there were several kids trying to give their buddies shredding lessons, I was far enough away that I could test out the amp without too much bother. During one of his too infrequent breaks I did get to try out the reverb and it was really weak. In the first store the amp sounded fine but I couldn't hear all that much because some guy in the drum room, which was only about twenty feet away, was doing his best Keith Moon impression and, unfortunately, they don't have a quiet room in which to test stuff out. I just came back from trying these out again but it was a bit of a wasted trip. Plus, if I buy the amp and the acoustic at the same time, I am sure one of the sales guys I usually deal with would be willing to cut me a bit of a deal.Īny opinions or info on this amp would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance. The acoustic is just being bought as a practice guitar for around the house so its not like I need a Martin or Taylor or anything like that - a Yamaha FG700 would probably do me fine and that would save me $50-$150 off the acoustics I had been looking at buying. I'm buying an acoustic at Christmas but, if I decide to go with the AC15VR, I'll get a cheaper acoustic than I was originally considering and will put the remainder of the money that had been set aside for that towards the amp. So long as it can handle classic rock, country, and '50s rock it would be good enough for me. I know it will never be equal to a Marshall tube amp, or even a completely tube VOX, but, since I only play at home and will never play out, it might work out perfectly fine for me. Im not 100% certain on how these hybrid style amps work so is the clean channel on these all tube while the overdrive is SS? Or is the overdrive a combination of tube and SS?Īs I said, I am looking to replace my Class 5 and am hoping that the AC15VR would be a (reasonably) suitable replacement. And what about the overdrive channels? I concentrated mainly on the clean channel and will spend more time with the overdrive later on but just wanted to ask what people thought. How do people find the reverb on them? I find the reverb on my Pathfinder to be pretty weak and I am concerned about having the same problem with the AC15VR (the store I tried one out in was rather busy and loud so it was difficult to hear the reverb without cranking the volume on the amp and I didn't want to be one of 'those' people who play stupidly loud in guitar stores). I have to spend some more time messing around with one in the store before I make my final decision but, in the meantime, I was wondering what people here thought of them, especially in terms of reliability, build quality, etc. ![]() I've tried the AC15VR out a couple of times and really quite liked them. But, if the AC15VR got me pretty damned close to tubey goodness, I might not bother with the VOX head at all and would simply keep the AC15VR and the Pathfinder. I might decide to grab a VOX head (likely the AC4TV) and cab in a couple of months and, if I do, I might get rid of the Pathfinder and keep the AC15VR instead (I can't believe I am considering getting rid of the Pathfinder but I just would never ever use any more than two amps). I've decided to get rid of my Class 5 due to being fed up with the rattling problem and was thinking that I would get the AC15VR as a replacement and a companion for my Pathfinder 15R. ![]() Can anyone give me their opinions of the VOX AC15VR?
